Sporting programs
Think Sport – think hats
Hats are a uniform requirement for sport. Sunscreen is also recommended.
K-2 Sport is conducted as gross motor development sessions. Small groups are supervised by the Class teacher and parent volunteers.
Primary Sport (Years 3-6) is conducted on Friday afternoons. Primary students have the opportunity to join competitive inter-school sport (PSSA) or participate in specialist programs for home sport eg. athletics, gym, dance.
Sport Fees are levied half yearly and cover the costs of registration and bus transport for PSSA sport and specialist physical education programs.
PSSA selection trials for senior and junior teams in cricket and modball are held early in Term 1—games are played in the summer months (terms 1 & 4). Selection trials for senior and junior teams in soccer and netball are in early Term 2– games played in winter months (terms 2 and 3). Selection is based on merit. Travel to venue is by bus.
Appropriate sports uniform is expected to be worn to inter school and district sports. Hats are a uniform requirement for sport. No hat, no play!
Representative shirts are supplied for the duration of the competition. Parent support is required to launder gear.
Carnivals
The swimming carnival is traditionally held in February at the West Pymble Pool. All swimmers turning 8 in the current year are encouraged to participate. Children are required to meet at the pool on the day. Buses will transport students back to school. House swim caps need to be worn.
The Cross Country Carnival is traditionally held in May at the school. Juniors complete a 2km course and the seniors complete a 3km course. All students turning 8 in the current year are encouraged to participate.
The Athletics Carnival is traditionally held in August at Bannockburn Oval. Running races and field events are organised by staff. All students turning 8 in the current year are encouraged to participate.
Parents are most welcome to join the excitement of Carnival days.
School houses
All students are allocated to sport houses. The three houses for our school are named with an aboriginal environmental theme. They are:
- Munda Earth Red
- Bangal Sun Yellow
- Wyuna Water Blue
House competitions are held in athletics and swimming. Weekly house points are awarded by staff for classroom contributions, messages, duties and extra responsibilities.
Carnival days require some “house colour” attire for example: A red T-shirt or polo shirt for Munda members, or a yellow swim cap for a Bangal swimmer.
